Aloha Kakou:
While not all of the design ideas in this article will work for Outrigger Maui Eldorado owners and guests (the bathtub in the bedroom idea, in particular!), this article has some interesting comments about guest preferences and trends in hotel rooms.
But I really like this quote: Manitoba Hotel Association president and CEO Jim Baker said keeping up on design is often a matter of survival. "Hotels have to invest in their future... or they'll be out of business," he said. "It's all about being inviting (to travellers)."

Everybody's Getting Into The Act
Aloha Kakou:
While competition for design has, in the past, been the most feverish between upscale hotels, now even motels are getting into the act. The design competition between budget chains like Super 8 and Red Roof Inn is becoming intense as properties remodel their rooms away from the traditional, dowdy, downscale look to rooms with design and amenities that are fresh and contemporary. Perhaps we need to consider how we, too, can become a bit more stylish.

The Bathroom Experience
Aloha Kakou:
When the Outrigger Maui Eldorado was built, bathrooms were for bathing, nothing more. Bathing was a necessary function, best performed quickly, based on the bathroom accouterments initially furnished with the property.
Now, hotel bathrooms are part of the guest experience. Once again, guests are looking for an amenity that is equal to or exceeds what they have at home. And, while comfortable may be the watchword in home bathrooms, hotel bathrooms are trending toward the modern.
