D Building Painting

Aloha Kakou:

Power washing of D building was completed on Friday and today masking has begun in earnest in preparation for painting. The painters are hoping to finish D building this week and move on to B building next week. High occupancy this week and over next weekend is creating some challenges as guests arrive for the Maui Marathon but we'll get everything worked out.

Press Release Mileage

Aloha Kakou:

The press release of September 8th announcing the Outrigger Maui Eldorado's new deal with the Spa at Black Rock has been picked up by several news outlets. It was also mentioned on KGMB (Honolulu channel 9) during the business news last Wednesday (sorry, no video clip!).

You Call That Done?

Aloha Kakou:

Yes, the force main construction has been completed, only three weeks behind schedule. Judging by the condition they left the road, however, the job doesn't look complete to me. The cones are gone now, replaced with that temporary yellow striping tape, but the road still has that Road to Hana surface.

The Bathroom Experience

Aloha Kakou:

When the Outrigger Maui Eldorado was built, bathrooms were for bathing, nothing more. Bathing was a necessary function, best performed quickly, based on the bathroom accouterments initially furnished with the property.

Now, hotel bathrooms are part of the guest experience. Once again, guests are looking for an amenity that is equal to or exceeds what they have at home. And, while comfortable may be the watchword in home bathrooms, hotel bathrooms are trending toward the modern.

Remind Me Not To Fly Aeroflot

Aloha Kakou:

What's worse than a drunken Aeroflot pilot? How about when the Aeroflot representative tries to reassure the panicky passengers that "it's not such a big deal if the pilot is drunk."

"Really, all he has to do is press a button and the plane flies itself," the representative said. "The worst that could happen is he'll trip over something in the cockpit."

Um, I think I'll stick with our flawed but sober domestic airlines.
