Dirtiest Hotels

Aloha Kakou:

Once again, TripAdvisor's presents it's annual list of dirtiest hotels in America. Considering the comments regarding this year's winners, it must take a huge effort to make this list!

Their Truck Was Right There

Aloha Kakou:

Let's hope the plumbers who installed the new backflow diverter are better at plumbing than they are at spelling!

Exterior Corridors Are In, Says Survey

Aloha Kakou:

Guests actively seek out hotels that have exterior corridors, according to a survey commissioned and published by Red Roof Inns (a mainland chain that has, surprise!, exterior corridors.

While some of the survey information is compelling, I'm grateful that we don't have motorcyclists who stay here with their own bikes!

Travelers Say The Darndest Things

Aloha Kakou:

I laughed at this article about the questions travelers ask. You might find some of them humorous yourself.

While here on Maui I have been asked:

Where can I change my money to Hawaiian money?
Does the water go all the way around the island?
Where do you keep the whales at night?
And my favorite: Can you give me driving directions to Pearl Harbor?

Sorry, We Didn't Make This List!

Aloha Kakou:

There are some lists that you'd rather not be on.

This is definitely one of them! Read these reviews if you dare!

Should We Start Offering This Service?

Aloha Kakou:

In addition to lowering rates and offering value-added packages, hotels are looking for any way to differentiate their product.

Here's one of the most unique I've seen:

Space Hotel Opening in 2012

Aloha Kakou:

While I don't believe that this property will be any competion for the Outrigger Maui Eldorado, an ADR of $74,500 makes me just a little envious!

Well dressed, smiling passengers with plenty of leg room, lobster tails and tablecloths, and get a load of that floral arrangement! Air travel isn't like this anymore!

Remind Me Not To Fly Aeroflot

Aloha Kakou:

What's worse than a drunken Aeroflot pilot? How about when the Aeroflot representative tries to reassure the panicky passengers that "it's not such a big deal if the pilot is drunk."

"Really, all he has to do is press a button and the plane flies itself," the representative said. "The worst that could happen is he'll trip over something in the cockpit."

Um, I think I'll stick with our flawed but sober domestic airlines.
