Princess Kaiulani Festival

Aloha Kakou:

Saturday, October 18 from 9 to 4 pm at St. John's church in Keokea, the Isle Pipe Band of Maui will present the annual Princess Kaiulani Festival.

The festival will include Hawaiian and Scottish games, food and music. There also will be presentations by historians, a fashion show and other exhibits.

The Princess, whose ancestry included Scottish fore bearers in addition to her obviously Hawaiian lineage, was the heir apparent to Queen Lili‘uokalani. She died at the age of 23 after catching cold during a horseback ride in the rain on Hawaii Island.

Even if you only go for an hour or so, the breathtaking drive to Keokea is a worthwhile Saturday diversion. From the highway as well as from the church (at an elevation of about 3500' above sea level) the vistas of Maui's isthmus and both coasts are staggering.
